Abby Moran was born in Eagle Pass and grew up in San Antonio. She was married to Col. John Stephen Moran, a builder's supply company owner who died in 1969. She earned a master's degree at Texas Woman's University in 1953. In 1957, she became head of The Fort Worth Public Library's Southwest history and genealogy department until her retirement in 1963.
